It's affordable and safe. However, it's not safe in downtown Atlanta because there are many crimes. Also there's a lot of traffic.

Hey Lady, It depends on how much ya'll can afford. Personally, I wouldnt live "downtown". The cost is too high. Places like Buckhead and North Atlanta. My boyfriend wants to live in the city when we move down there next year and I told him, you got city money, LOL. As far as safety, its like any other city. You can live in the suburbs and be fine. I am moving back to Atlanta next year. I was born in Ohio but lived in Atlanta and my father and grandmother are life long residents so if I dont know something, I get information from them. Places I recommend.to live are Lawrenceville, Parts of Decatur and Lithonia. Lawrenceville- which is in Gwinnett County, it is a nice place to live and a nice school system. As far as k-12. It isnt that far from Downtown Atlanta, far enough, lol. You take I-85 South and hit it in about 30-40 mins. Lithonia- which is in Dekalb County, it is a nice place to live as well. It is up and coming and it is near Stonecrest Mall. Also part of Decatur ( outside 285 which is their perimiter outerbelt) that is also in Dekalb County. It is the next county over from Fulton County ( Atlanta) Its not that far from Downtown Atlanta, go straight out I-20 West and you hit downtown in about 15-20 mins, depends on how fast you drive, lol. One thing I want you to concider. The traffic in Atlanta is HORRIBLE. I remember when I was driving from Ohio and I hit the early morning traffic around 7:30am. I called my grandmother to let her know I was in Atlanta metro area and I was having a FIT. I got to Atlanta Metro area at 7:30, I didnt get to my grandmother's house in Dekalb county until 9:00am So, if you are going to Clark Atlanta, I say if you have a 9am Class. Leave the house at 7:00, maybe even 6:30AM. Another thing as well if you drive, Georgia has a Valorem tax, which is a tax they charge on top of your regular registration, plates and tags for your vehicle. They go by the type of car you have as well as the county and city you live in. The close to Fulton County, the higher the tax. My grandmother had a lexus and the valorem tax was $600 on top of the registration. My car which is a newer trailblazer that tax will run anywhere from $200-$300 depending on if I move to Lithonia or Lawrenceville. Good luck in your search and good luck with school. Have fun down there.
